May 5, 2018 Race at Greenville Pickens

First and foremost we would like to thank the staff at Greenville Pickens Speedway for inviting our vintage race car club to race on May 5, 2018.
The night started out with a great show of 13 cars for the Meet and Greet on the front stretch with an awesome crowd that came to see our vintage cars.
With a draw for starting positions, Greg Porter started on the pole with Troy Burgess on the outside front row followed by Don Fenn, Don Krietemeyer and Steve Howard in the Modified Stock Class.
They were followed by the V8 Stock Cars of Ed Ritchey, Roger Sams, Shane Terry, Duffie Sams and Scott Marshall.
Starting in the 6 Cylinder Class was Raymond Sams, Daren Canter and Howard Scruggs.
The race started with Greg Porter in the lead with Troy Burgess in hot pursuit. On lap 4, Troy Burgess would go to the inside for the lead but would later relinquish it to Greg Porter who took the win for the Modified Stock Class.
In the V8 Stock Class Ed Ritchey would lead flag to flag for the win.Unfortunately, the cars of Shane Terry and Roger Sams would get together on the back straightaway on lap 3 ending Roger’s night.
Duffie Sams would spin out later in the race and was able to finish second in class.
In the 6 Cylinder class Raymond Sams, in his 67 Ford Mustang, would win again with Daren Canter finishing second and Howard Scruggs in third.
Don Fenn brought his very fast 65 Chevelle for the first time this season finishing second to Greg Porter. We would also like to thank Steve Howard for bringing out his beautiful new Chevy II to race with our club finishing third and wish them good luck through the season.
All in all it was a great night with the weather holding off, a good show for the fans and a great time was had by all.
Hope to see all of our vintage racers and fans at Anderson Speedway on June 22nd.
