Our friend, Roger Sams, former CVR member and racer has gone to be with the Lord, Wednesday night 8-23-23. Having retired from law enforcement and living in Bostic, NC near the Golden Valley area, Roger joined the Carolina Vintage Racers club with the encouragement of his brother, Raymond. To satisfy his need for speed, Roger put together a '55 Bel Air and had to paint and letter it to remember a talented short track racer of the '60's from the Golden Valley of NC, Preston Humphries. Roger loved racing with the club and even captured the 2017 Stock V8 class Championship. Only two years ago, Roger sold his beloved Golden Valley Road Runner, claiming that due to declining health, he wasn't able to do it anymore. Roger had heart issues and recently contracted pneumonia and was at the Spartanburg Hospital at the time of his passing. Roger was 77 yrs young. We will miss Roger both on and off the track. Please send your prayers to the Sams family at this time.
Almost 13 Years ago to the day, the Carolina Vintage took to the track at North Wilkesboro Speedway an attempt to revive the track. The track and stands were cleaned and cleared, and racing returned. Late models, Flathead Fords and the Carolina Vintage took to the track in front of a great crowd and some greats of Stockcar Racing. Even pieces of the an old back straightaway were given out as trophies to the winners. There was even a new song released and played live after the racing (Matt Dylan, Carolina Moonshine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71D_NUNgQgM During the day race, there was a fantastic car show in the infield, displaying cars from when stockcar racing began from running moonshine through the back roads of the South. Take a look at video from our race back on May 15, 2010 with current and former Carolina Vintage Racers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxN5zTXv9OY

The purpose of this club is to show fans the roots of modern day racing, recognize the cars, drivers, and crews of early racing and to fellowship with fans and fellow racers. The main goal of the members is not to win or lose, but to have safe, clean fun! We really do run these old stock cars hard and have fun participating. You usually can catch us on a Saturday night on short tracks in the Carolina's. Most of our members live in the Piedmont of the two Carolina's surrounding Charlotte, NC.
Our Vintage stock cars run V8 and Inline 6 cylinder powered steel bodied American made cars range from 1972 and older. We run OEM full frame chassis with modern safety equipment. Some are actual old racers and some are newly built. The main criteria is to have fun safely.
Please contact the club officials if you would like to join the club and/or race at an event. The Club is by invitation only.
