With 3 separate spins among 3 different competitors, we waited on the official order of finish to bring out the full rundown. It had to be the longest race (time) we have had all year due to the cautions and spins and one stopped on the track. Happy to report there was minimum damage to our real steel cars, but all important due to the close season points chase. With these results, the Inline 6 class lead is separated by a single point and the V8 points lead is by 3 points. Another tie has formed for 5th in the V8 class between Danny Toney and Tim Stokes. The club was glad to see Carlton Waugh this evening taking the green in the Black Widow '57 Belair with us after being weak from treatments he has had recently. We can't wait till October 21st when the CVR cars unload at Hickory Motor Speedway for our last scheduled race of 2023.

Practice under some beautiful skies lead to most competitors taking advantage of the wide track and cooler temperatures. Two guys had misfortune when their engines let go and their night was done early. Six cars lined up for the 25 lap feature 2nd on the schedule. Marty's fast Falcon quit running during pace laps and had to be pushed off to the pits. The rest took off with a battle for the lead between Duffie Sams and Danny Toney. Kristi Peacock stayed in front of Howard Scruggs from the start for the battle between the inline sixes. Danny Toney had the lead when the rain started getting heavier and at lap 16 Timmy Hutson, flagman, gave out the yellow and checkerd flag. Kristi Peacock grabbed her 2nd win at LPMP in her Duster ahead of Howard Scruggs for the inline 6 tie in season points with one race to go. The V8 season points can't get any closer with just one more race on the schedule with Doug Howell and Marty Reid tied at 188 points with 3rd place Jesse Martin at 171. Who knows what will happen when the CVR cars unload at the next event.

Unofficial results of our first visit of 2023 at Hickory Motor Speedway. Some of the races of the night did not get to run due to a late shower that set in. The vintage drivers made he most of their sunshine to put on a tough 25 lap feature with a few sprinkles showing up on their windshields and a couple of spins with cautions. However, all continued, with only the Duster of Peacock ducting in the pits early. Tim Stokes came up through the pack of eleven cars to grab the lead from Don Kreitemeyer. A testament to a fine bunch of drivers was that the top 6 cars were all on the same straightaway at the finish. Local Hudson driver Jerry DeHart joined the vintage club last year, and had to hold off Howard Scruggs's Hornet to gain his first 6 cylinder win. Our next race is scheduled for Anderson Aug. 5th.

The CVR 25 lap feature was fast at the new fully paved 4/10 mile oval until lap 17 when Kristi Peacock lost a lot of fluid from turn 3 and down the front straight. Marty Reid came up thru the field, since he started at the rear since he won the last time out at Lonesome Pine. Marty had strong competition from Jerry Bryant, Danny Toney and Jesse Martin. Since CVR cars ran last in the evening, fans were treated with the closest finish of the night. Since Peacock's car expired, Howard Scruggs cruised to get his 1st Inline 6 win of the season in his fan-favorite '51 Hudson Hornet.

The CVR 25 lap feature was run at the wide 3/8 mile oval from green to checkers. Everyone had big smiles when the race was over with the close competition and the chase most V8 cars put on to try to catch the Falcon Marty Reid had on go & starting from the front row. This was Marty's first trophy driving in the stock V8 class. Keeping it all in the family, Kristi Peacock stayed ahead of the other two inline 6 competitors to capture her trophy in the Duster.
