Laurel Ellen Hart Sams, wife of longtime CVR racer, Raymond Odell Sams, died suddenly Thursday due to an auto accident, in Asheville. The Sams live in Shelby, where she supported Raymond's racing habits by a career as an auditor for convenience stores. Laura and Raymond enjoyed going to Nascar races and trips to the beach. Please extend prayers to Raymond and daughter, Holly, for their loss. The family will receive friends at the Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home in Shelby on Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. Laura will be missed by a large extended family and friends, along with CVR members.

Our Club
The purpose of this club is to show fans the roots of modern day racing, recognize the cars, drivers, and crews of early racing and to fellowship with fans and fellow racers. The main goal of the members is not to win or lose, but to have safe, clean fun! We really do run these old stock cars hard and have fun participating. You usually can catch us on a Saturday night on short tracks in the Carolina's. Most of our members live in the Piedmont of the two Carolina's surrounding Charlotte, NC.
Our Vintage stock cars run V8 and Inline 6 cylinder powered steel bodied American made cars range from 1972 and older. We run OEM full frame chassis with modern safety equipment. Some are actual old racers and some are newly built. The main criteria is to have fun safely.
Please contact the club officials if you would like to join the club and/or race at an event. The Club is by invitation only.
